Crabtree and Evelyn

Crabtree and Evelyn is a UK beauty brand selling its products online using the Shopify platform.

We think the site looks great and is a solid bit of inspiration for anyone looking for an example of a site in this space.

Here’s three things we love about this website.

1. Great layout of copy on product pages

These are beauty products. People need to know quite a lot of stuff before making a decision on whether to buy them or not. Things like:

• What’s it for?
• What’s in it?
• How do I use it?

Even on mobile, Crabtree and Evelyn does an amazing job at getting a lot of information onto product pages laid out in a way that’s really easy to scan.

We LOVE:

• “Smells like, feels like, gives you” copy above the image
• Use of background colours to split out description, benefits and ingredients

It’s simple but gets everything that’s needed on the pages without making them look cluttered.

2. Product Photography

Swooning over the photography a little bit here.

They’ve gone the extra mile with photography. While some might argue a product like this really only needs one photo (after all, it’s just a bottle, right?) Crabtree and Evelyn have several photos of each product. They show the material inside the packaging too so people know exactly what to expect when they get the product.

In some cases, they show the products in use. And I like the fact they’ve not gone with a pure white background. Tempting though it may be when you’re trying to make a site look clean, my personal preference is for slightly off white and I’m loving the background on these.

3. The Create Your Own Gift Function

This is great!

Such a simple idea but a brilliant one. It allows users to select a few products, have them all put into a gift box and add a message. This is a great alternative to a small selection of pre-prescribed gift sets that might not have the precise products you want.
